The Sustainable Business Awards, in partnership with Global Initiatives, had on 29 January 2019, declared United Plantations as Winner under the category of “Climate Change” in recognition of the sustainable efforts undertaken by the company since 2005.
“Through its focused efforts, United Plantations Berhad has managed to reduce its GHG emissions by 40% (with indirect land use change and nature conservation) per kg of refined oil produced from 2004-2017. They have also invested heavily in biogas plants which have helped to reduce the CO2 emissions,” said the conclusion by the National Advisory panel which led to the prize.
CED of United Plantations, Dato´ Carl Bek-Nielsen, is pleased with the Award, which he attributes to the company’s constant focus on optimising energy efficiency and reducing the company’s carbon footprint. “Ultimately, it is our actions and behaviour that defines what type of company we are and for UP, I continue to see sustainability as one of the key pillars in our Group’s Strategy”, says Dato´ Carl Bek-Nielsen.
